This month sees National Parks Week from 20th-28th April and it is a great opportunity to explore your local parks. As a setting you may regularly visit your local parks, but why not challenge your families to do the same? Ask your families to explore their local park and see if they can complete a scavenger hunt to help children move more and sit less like Active Azra.

Active Azra wants you to find:

  • A stick as long as your arm
  • A daisy the size of your thumb
  • A stone that fits in the palm of your hand like Micky Me Size
  • 5 different coloured leaves to represent Fay 5 a day

If your park has a playground, this is a great opportunity for children to develop a whole host of fundamental movement skills with Sammy Skills – can they balance across logs or climb up the climbing frame to help develop their dynamic stability; can you create a hop scotch out of sticks or draw it in chalk to help them develop their locomotor skills; and can they build a den out of sticks to help develop their manipulation skills?

We would love to see what you get up to this National Parks week, so don’t forget to tag us in your social media posts @startwellbirmingham.
